The Hydrologist Specialist is responsible for reviewing and approving hydrology-related designs, ensuring they meet project specifications, local water management regulations, and international standards.
This role focuses on water flow efficiency, flood risk management, and integrating sustainable water resource practices in large-scale infrastructure projects.
Responsibilities:
Hydrology Design Review and Approval:
- Review and approve hydrology-related designs, including drainage systems and water flow management, ensuring compliance with project specifications, local regulations, and international standards.
- Evaluate designs for efficiency, flood risk mitigation, and sustainable water resources integration, ensuring the systems meet environmental guidelines.
- Ensure all hydrology designs conform to local water management regulations, environmental laws, and best practices in stormwater management and flood mitigation.
Coordination with Design Teams:
- Collaborate with civil engineers, landscape architects, and other design disciplines to integrate hydrology systems into the overall project design seamlessly.
- Facilitate effective communication between the hydrology team and other disciplines, ensuring smooth design coordination for stormwater drainage, flood control, and water resource systems.
Quality Control and Compliance:
- Implement quality control measures to ensure hydrology designs meet project standards, regulations, and best practices.
- Conduct compliance reviews, ensuring hydrological systems align with environmental regulations, sustainability standards, and flood control guidelines.
Technical Problem Solving:
- Address and resolve hydrology design issues related to drainage, water flow, and flood management, ensuring practical, compliant solutions.
- Provide technical expertise to resolve complex challenges in water flow and flood risk management, ensuring optimal and sustainable design solutions.
Documentation and Reporting:
- Maintain comprehensive records of all hydrology design review activities, including approvals, revisions, and recommendations.
- Ensure hydrology design documents are accurate, up-to-date, and available for regulatory inspections and audits.
Client and Stakeholder Engagement:
- Serve as the primary point of contact for hydrology-related design queries from the client, ensuring that water management and flood control goals are incorporated into the final designs.
- Participate in design review meetings with clients and stakeholders, providing updates on hydrology progress and addressing concerns or challenges.
Competency Requirements:
- Proven experience in hydrology and water resource management design review for large-scale projects.
- Expertise in hydrological modeling, stormwater management, flood risk mitigation, and drainage systems.
- Strong knowledge of local and international codes, environmental regulations, and sustainability practices in hydrology design.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to provide actionable feedback to multidisciplinary teams and stakeholders.
Minimum Requirements:
Education:
- BSc Holders: Bachelor’s degree in Hydrology, Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related field from a recognized Western-accredited university, with over 15 years of relevant experience.
- MSc Holders: Master’s degree in Hydrology, Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related field from a recognized Western-accredited university, with over 12 years of relevant experience.
Professional Membership:
Chartered membership in a recognized institution (e.g., CIWEM, IAHR, or equivalent).
Experience:
10-15 years of experience in hydrology design review and water resources management, with at least 5 years in a leadership or supervisory role.
Language Skills:
Fluency in English is mandatory; proficiency in Arabic is an asset.

- Excellent communication skills (verbal, written, and listening), with the ability to effectively interact with stakeholders and design teams.

- Advanced Software Skills: Proficiency in hydrological modeling software (e.g., HEC-HMS, SWMM, or similar) for advanced water flow analysis and flood risk management.
