The Senior Quality Material Engineer is responsible for ensuring the highest quality of materials used in construction projects, from initial inspection through to final installation.

The role involves thorough material inspections, compliance with international and local standards, and collaboration with suppliers and contractors.

The Senior Quality Material Engineer will oversee quality assurance processes, ensure strict adherence to material specifications, and resolve any material-related issues that arise during the project.

Responsibilities:

  •  Material Inspection and Assessment: Conduct thorough inspections of materials delivered to the construction site to ensure they meet project specifications, quality standards, and client requirements. Approve only materials that meet high-quality standards.
  • Supplier Collaboration and Verification: Collaborate with suppliers to verify the quality of materials, ensuring compliance with delivery schedules, international/local standards, and project requirements.
  • Quality Control Plan Development: Develop and implement comprehensive quality control plans for materials, including testing procedures, inspection protocols, and documentation processes to maintain consistent quality throughout the project.
  • Compliance and Standards Enforcement: Ensure all materials comply with international and local standards, conducting regular audits and inspections to enforce adherence.
  • Documentation and Record Maintenance: Maintain detailed records of material inspections, test results, and certifications. Ensure documentation is accurate and readily available for audits and project closeout.
  • Coordination and Issue Resolution: Work with the construction team to resolve material quality issues and propose corrective actions. Lead efforts to address non-conformances effectively and efficiently.
  • Material Quality Assurance Leadership: Lead the development and implementation of material quality assurance procedures and ensure strict adherence by contractors to maintain consistent quality.
  • Stakeholder Liaison: Act as the primary point of contact for material-related quality issues, ensuring clear communication between the project team, contractors, and suppliers to resolve issues quickly and effectively.

Competency Requirements:

  • Proven experience as a Senior Quality Material Engineer in large-scale infrastructure or construction projects, particularly in the context of international PMC contracts.
  • Extensive hands-on experience with material inspections, quality assurance processes, and knowledge of international and local standards.
  • Strong understanding of construction materials, their properties, testing methods, and compliance requirements.
  • Familiarity with quality management software and tools, along with a systematic approach to managing material quality.

Minimum Requirements:

Education:

  • For BSc Holders: Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field, with over 15 years of relevant experience.
  • For MSc Holders: Master’s degree in Civil Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field, with over 12 years of relevant experience.
  • Professional Membership: Membership in a recognized chartered institution related to quality management or materials engineering (e.g., CQI, ICE, or equivalent).

Language Skills:

  • Proficiency in English is mandatory.
  • Professional Experience:
  • A minimum of 12-15 years of experience in material engineering and quality control, with at least 5 years in a managerial role.

Other Skills:

  • Excellent communication skills (listening, verbal & written) for interaction with stakeholders, suppliers, and contractors.
  • Detail-oriented, with a commitment to ensuring the highest quality of materials in the project, exceeding required standards.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills for managing quality control processes and documentation.
  • Proactive problem-solving abilities to address and resolve material-related issues swiftly.
  • Proficiency in Material Quality Control: In-depth experience with material testing, inspection, and quality control measures in large-scale projects.
  • Leadership in Supplier Collaboration: Proven ability to work effectively with suppliers, ensuring material quality and adherence to project timelines and standards.
