The Sustainability and Life Cycle Cost Specialist is responsible for reviewing sustainability strategies and conducting life cycle cost analyses (LCCA) to optimize long-term environmental and economic outcomes in large-scale construction projects.
The role ensures compliance with international sustainability standards and environmental regulations while integrating sustainability principles throughout the design and construction phases.
Responsibilities:
Sustainability Design Review and Approval:
- Review and approve sustainability strategies in design submissions, ensuring alignment with project specifications, local environmental regulations, and international sustainability standards (e.g., LEED, BREEAM).
- Evaluate designs for energy efficiency, water conservation, material selection, and environmental impact, providing expert feedback to enhance sustainability performance.
- Ensure the integration of sustainability principles across building systems, including the use of renewable energy sources, sustainable materials, and waste management practices.
Life Cycle Cost Analysis:
- Conduct comprehensive life cycle cost analyses (LCCA) to evaluate the long-term economic and environmental impact of design options, materials, and systems.
- Compare upfront capital costs with long-term operational savings by considering factors such as energy consumption, maintenance, and replacement costs.
- Provide strategies for optimizing life cycle costs to reduce overall expenses while meeting sustainability goals, balancing both performance and budgetary constraints.
Coordination with Design Teams:
- Collaborate with architects, engineers, and project managers to ensure that sustainability objectives are fully integrated into the design, construction, and operational phases.
- Maintain clear communication between the sustainability team and other professionals to align the project’s sustainability targets with life cycle cost goals.
Quality Control and Compliance:
- Implement quality control processes to ensure that designs comply with environmental and sustainability standards, including energy efficiency and resource conservation.
- Conduct compliance checks to ensure adherence to local green building regulations, environmental laws, and international sustainability certifications.
Technical Problem Solving:
- Address and resolve sustainability challenges in design and construction, ensuring solutions are efficient and compliant with environmental standards and life cycle cost objectives.
- Provide technical expertise to balance sustainability goals with economic feasibility, ensuring both immediate and long-term design objectives are met.
Documentation and Reporting:
- Maintain detailed records of sustainability assessments, life cycle cost analyses, design reviews, and certifications, ensuring all documentation is current and accessible for audits.
- Report on sustainability performance data to all stakeholders, providing updates on progress toward achieving sustainability and cost optimization goals.
Client and Stakeholder Engagement:
- Serve as the main point of contact for sustainability and life cycle cost-related inquiries, ensuring the client’s goals are met in the final design.
- Participate in review meetings with clients and stakeholders, offering updates, recommendations, and insights on sustainability progress and life cycle cost efficiency.
Competency Requirements:
- Proven experience in sustainability design review, life cycle cost analysis, and green building practices in large-scale construction projects.
- In-depth knowledge of international sustainability standards (e.g., LEED, BREEAM), energy efficiency, water conservation, and life cycle cost modeling.
- Expertise in optimizing sustainability strategies while reducing long-term costs and ensuring compliance with green building certifications.
- Strong communication and leadership skills, capable of providing actionable feedback and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams.
Minimum Requirements:
Education:
- BSc Holders: Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering, Sustainability, Architecture, or a related field from a recognized Western-accredited university with over 15 years of relevant experience.
- MSc Holders: Master’s degree in Environmental Engineering, Sustainability, Architecture, or a related field from a recognized Western-accredited university with over 12 years of relevant experience.
